Southwest Nostalgia Drags - Surprise, AZ

Two weeks ago was the Southwest Nostalgia Drags at Speedworld Motorplex in Surprise. Jimbo and I rolled out and through his smooth-talking to the gal at the gate conned our way in free because UTI had sponsored a race there the weekend prior. Something about us having to pick up lawn chairs that were left behind there or something..... Since we are early guys, we kind of missed the boat a bit because we got there about 8am and were ready to move on to the next fiasco by about noon. I was car shopping that day and had a few on the list I wanted to check out. As we were getting ready to roll out, all of the good shit was starting to roll in, so apparently all the greasers are late sleepers.

Goodguys Southwest Nationals - Scottsdale, AZ

The fall Goodguys Southwest Nationals is probably the biggest car show event of the year in AZ, this year did not disappoint, great weather, cool rides, and "better" deals this year at the swap meet probably due to the tough economy. All of the members from the AZ posse had plans so I flew solo on this run, which worked well as I was able to make five passes at the swap meet and spend lots of additional time smoozing with the other wheel vendors. The retro/nostalgia theme is definately picking up momentum and the old farts are swapping their billet wheels and parts for recreations of trashed out parts that they would have run back in the day - but are still paying the same. Thank god for old rich farts with more money than creativity if you have an aftermarket business! So here is an assortment of some of the stuff I thought was bitchin at the show.

Good Rides of the Good Guys

Besides the swap meet which is my main draw to Good Guys and smoozing with the other wheel vendors, once that is all done if you have time left you can look at the three thousand or so cars scattered around. There are a few here and there....

This handmade glassed-out trans am mustang was our hands down favorite. Looks like a POS, but has fat tires, fat suspension and a fat ass motor that flat gets its.

Beer, Broads & Bumper Cars - Buckeye, AZ Demo Derby

Who in the world doesn't like a good demo derby, well the Phoenix crew certainly does. Throw in lawn tractor races, $3 beers, and lots of corn-fed farm girls and you know the evening will be one to remember. Welcome to Buckeye, AZ!

And the Grammy Goes To....

the Drag Racing in the 60's series. Best damn videos I've seen all year. F'ing West Coast Mags all the way!

These next two were filmed at US131 Dragway in Martin, Michigan late 60's.

This week's Swap Meet pickins

Unlike all the douche-bags out there all wound up over some dudes kicking a spotted ball around, those in the know were aware that the real happenings were down at the Glendale Swap Meet. It was slim pickins unfortunately, but we did manage to round up a matched pair of 15x10 U.S. Indy Mags. We've always felt the U.S. Indy's were one of the better slots out there, these will clean up well and be a great pair for some lucky automobile. Also snagged a Western Turbine II, but the pickins were slim otherwise.

We need a bigger showroom - FAST!

The wheel displays must be copulating while we're not at the shop, the office is starting to be overrun with racks of wheels too!

True. True.

It's called - the BAAAAD Motha-F*cker

Hang on to your hats when you're working on this one - the "new to us but old to the world" polishing lathe is a bad bad boy. Five horses of three-phase electric current puts the pedal to the metal on this one, and it will throw a wheel through a wall if you're not paying attention. But that would never happen of course....

the Motorcycle Grave Yard - Rye, Arizona

What a cluster of shit that was - but at least I found the tail-light I needed....
